The High Maka Makas

Greeted in Maui by a double rainbow

With over 41 miles of swimmable beaches and over 300 inches of rainfall in the center of the island you are bound to have great picture ops. Here is a cool pic of a double rainbow. It was a great way to start our Maui trip.

Maui is our last destination before going back to the mainland. There are must dos that we missed in Oahu. That just means we need to do that much more in Maui. Get ready Maui here come the Davids and the Harris's.

I have no idea why anyone would leave Oahu but here we are doing it. We are given a nice aloha by this beautiful island. And yes I was given permission to take pics on the plane.

Daddy's playtime

This has to be up there with some of the best snorkling I have ever done in Hawaii. The water was crystal clear, it was warm, and the sun was bright. Everytime I followed Paul,we found a turtle. We saw a huge one in the beginning and then another when I followed him out of the water. It was cool. I went out a little father than I usually go but was greeted with a school of about 100 fish. A parrot fish the size of Jennys luggage. A ton of humus, puffers, convicts, and rasses.

Scott's new hobby is photography, and he is good too. I tried taking pics with my phone but by the time I got out there I missed the sunset. So I figured I would take a picture of Scott taking a picture.

Long, but fun, day

Keaolani had a blast today with her new friend Carmella. And making new friends at MCC, and fun shopping at Walmart, window shopping, playing at Sharks Cove, going to Waikiki, and eating at Dukes. I think that might have been too much of a day for her. Sorry sweetheart.

Quote of the day

Todays quote comes from just plain silliness in the car. There was a smell that started filling the car. Having kids the finger was immediately pointedcat them. Ken says I know that smell ain't Mason. So Bess pulls the car over to change Keaolani. Then, with shame and with much reluctance, Scott says, "I was going to let Keaolani take the blame until you pulled the car over."

That right, Hula Pie makes everything better! And no that is not a camera trick, Jenny has just one mountainous slice in front of her.

pKeaolani got into the aloha spirit and sported a nice flower in her hair. We got friends, live music, fresh mahi tacos, scrumptious calamari, sitting in the open air on the beach, what more could you ask for except...

Kalua Pork Quesadilla

I could hardly believe my eyes. We wanted to just get a quick bite, take a break from all the Hawaiian foods so we went to Taco Bell. Lo and behold the aloha spirit touched them too. Queso with kalua pork. We had to try it and it was well worth it!

Mililani Community Church

We met up with pastor Rick and his wife Diane. She actually will be staying with us a couple days in April. Hopefully she can convince pastor Rick to tag along. We also got a chance to talk story with pastor Steve and some of his kids and Joel my buddy from Mililani Middle school was there too. It was a quick but good time of fellowship and catching up. Pastor Rick gave a great message on the qualities of an elder as they are in the process of electing more men that desires that position. We are praying that Godly men would take up that call and keep MCC strong in the preaching of the Word and in the discipline of His elect.

Quote for the day

The hands down winner of the day are two quotes we saw at the swap meet. One said, "I cleaned my house last week, sorry you missed it." The other was, "When I die bury me at Walmart so my wife will visit."

Dinner guests for the luau

For our luau Jennys friend came also. They were a cool couple that has a child too. Mardelle, Paul, and baby Carmella. We hope to hook up with them again soon.

Luau Time

Bessie and I have a tradition that one night on our Hawaiian vacation we do an authentic luau. So here we are with two kinds of lau lau, lomi lomi, kalua pork, papaya, avocado, pineapple, cheese cake, mint ice cream, and macadamian nut Iona coffee.

Zippy-de-do-da

After a hard 5 hours of shopping at the swap meet, we decided to refill at our new favorite spot, Zippys of course. I had the mahi mix plate and Bess, Jen, and Scott got the Deluxe Crispy Chicken with a side if chilli cheese fries. Topped off with some Napolies dessert, hoopia flavor. It we so ono it broke the mouth.

Aloha, I love it here!!!

After a rough first day Keaolani's skin has actually gotten better here. The humidity in the air makes it so that we don't have to use so much lotion so her body creates natural
moisture. She is still sratching a bit but not as she usually does. The biggest change is that after a whole day of just one application of lotion she does is not covered in white ashy dead skin. We are just praying what a whole week would do scone this is just our 2nd full day. Praise God.

Keaolani's First Coconut

The perfect accompaniment to the best coconut I ever had in my life is to buy two of them. Wish I had another right now.

Time fo shop

A must to do in O'ahu is shop, barter, haggle, whatever your fancy, at the Aloha Stadium parking lot. I have been known to find $5 aloha shirts and fresh pineapple for a dollar. Come and see what deals you can get.

Our backyard is the world class Turtle Bay Golf Course. Last night Scott and I almost did an impromptu round since there was no security.

Quote of the day

There was many to choose from today. We saw two memorable bumper stickers, one said "Cook rice no ice," another car had surf boards on top of it but had a sticker that said, "Surfing sucks!" but I think the best one came from Scott that suffered from some mosquito bites. He said, "You know scratching feels so good it is almost worth getting bit just to do so."

Dinner at Kua'aina

We decided to have dinner at the North Shore in Kau'aina. They specialize in ono burgers. It definately broke the mouth.

Time for a dip in the ocean

Being only walking distance from the famous Turtle Bay Resort we decided to take a dip in the lagoon there. Water was a bit cold but the 80 degree weather eased the transition.

Quote of the day

I thought I would also chronicle some of the funny moments that a
picture cannot take. It may just be funny to you if you were there
type of thing but here it goes anyways.

A certain person ----- needed to use the restroom but we were still
20-25 minutes away from the timeshare. This person asked the driver to
make a quick stop at any place that might facilitate relief. About 5
minutes later we found such a place but the certain someone said, "No
thanks, I don't need to go anymore. It had passed already." Needless
to say it left those of us in the car stuck between laughing and
asking "Should we open a window or what?" Guess you had to be there.

Walking with grandma, or should I say running. Keaolani loves to come to grandmas house and make my mom walk her all over the house. She will stop for a quick second to sip her milk and then she looks up at grandma and says, "Up" and then "Walk." She has grandma wrapped around her finger too. We figured that Keaolani needed to see the grandparents before spending 11 days in Hawaii makes her forget she has grandparents. Thanks for the sinigang and adobo mom. IT WAS DELICIOUS!!! Tomorrow we will be in HAWAII. Woohooo!!! Check back into the blog if you wanna see a daily picture diary.

1 More Day

With one more day left to wait, we had the pleasure of taking the Harris' to the airport. Those lucky dogs are going before us. I can't wait to reunite with them on O'ahu.

Happy Ressurection Day

We spent Easter with Bessie's parents. It began with Sunday at CBC, and the rest of the day at United Church of Christ and then Bessie's parents house. As you can see from the pictures, Keaolani got really attached to Dad and would not leave his side. Just look at the proud grandfather!!!









And then of course Keaolani had to parade her pretty dress. Here is auntie Gina helping her walk down the runway.
